greatbriton: (DW 10/M I Love You)

Okie Dokie. Here is a step into Season 3 of Doctor Who. I have finished watching the entire season but I can't do all 13 episodes in one post. That would make even my head explode. So I'm recapping/commenting on the first 7 episodes.

Doctor Who:

The Runaway Bride: This was a wonderful Christmas Special. Catherine Tate!!! <3

So after having my heartache rudely interrupted by Donna Noble, we jump into her story. She was going down the isle to her wedding when she was suddenly sucked up into the TARDIS. Apparently she has been drugged over time and is now part some...stuff...that's like magical or something. Its the same stuff the TARDIS has, so that's why she zoomed up into it. Some crazy huge Spider Alien wants to use her to hatch her eggs that have been lying in the center of the Earth since its creation.

TARDIS car chase! That was epic and a half. And I'm so glad Rose was continually referenced. Cause I HATE when shows kill/lose a character and then strangely never talk about or reference the character. Even if they were a HUGE part of the show. Some would say, the heart of a group of demon fighters lead by a vampire with a soul. *stares in the direction of a certain tragic Joss Whedon show*

Donna: I can't do it!
The Doctor: Trust me.
Donna: Is that what you said to her? Your friend? The one you lost? Did she trust you?
The Doctor: Yes, she did. And she is not dead. She is *so* alive. Now jump!

I really loved this moment.

Donna: Promise me one thing though, Doctor.
The Doctor: What's that?
Donna: That you'll find somebody.
The Doctor: I don't need anybody.
Donna: Yes you do. Because I think sometimes you need somebody to stop you.

I would really comment more on this special but the fact is...my brain is all wrapped up in Series 3 and the lovely that is Martha. So, I will move on.

3x01 - Smith and Jones: Loved the beginning of this! Martha walking down the street on the phone with her mother, I believe, and The Doctor stops in front of her and takes off his tie and then walks off. lolol. Time Travel is FUN!

I found this episode so entertaining. And it quickly took my mind off the loss of Rose. I can't really say there's anything I didn't like about this episode.

An alien is hiding out in the hospital that Martha works at and The Doctor pretends to be a patient. Then the hospital is transported up to the moon where a bunch of police like Rhino aliens come, in search of the fugitive alien. The Doctor and Martha go on a search for her as well, The Doctor worried he'll be taken because he's not human.

And The Doctor's excitement at the hospital having a little shop was too adorable. And his crazy radiation dance was hilarious. Even the old woman who was the fugitive alien was kind of creepy. And wonderful first case for Martha to be introduced in. She was helpful and ended up saving The Doctor's life. The first of many times it seems in this season.

Martha Jones: If you could see me this morning, why didn't you tell me not to go into work?
The Doctor: Crossing into established events is strictly forbidden. Except for cheap tricks.

The Doctor: We might die.
Martha Jones: We might not.
The Doctor: (gives her an approving look) Good.

3x02 - The Shakespeare Code: I usually hate shows that introduce real historical characters, because they usually just do it all badly and it makes my head hurt. But for some reason, when Doctor Who does historical figures it doesn't piss me off. And this Shakespeare episode amused me.

Harry Potter jokes! I laughed. "Expelliarmus!" teeeheee I felt my first twinge of sadness for Martha in this episode when they're lying in bed together. The Doctor is often mentioning Rose and what she would do to help or did do. Leaving Martha to feel useless and unseen. As this season went on I wanted to bonk Ten on the head so hard...but then, I know where he's at and I get sad again. But Martha! I lurves her and he should too!

One of the scenes I most enjoyed in this episode was when one of The Doctor's hearts wasn't working. He was freaking out about how human's cope with only one heart. And then had Martha hit him in various places to get his heart going again. heh

I LOVE this moment...

Martha Jones: But are we safe? I mean, can we move around and stuff?
The Doctor: Of course we can. Why not?
Martha Jones: It's like in those films, If you step on a butterfly, you change the future of the human race.
The Doctor: Then, don't step on any butterflies. What have butterflies ever done to you?

3x03 - Gridlocked: I really enjoyed this episode. Though a sad slap in Martha's face when she learns this is where The Doctor had previously taken Rose. :( But now that I have seen this entire season I can never look at the Face of Boe the same way again. I KNEW there was a reason I really loved that big fat face! lol

Another reason this episode was excellent, Ardal O'Hanlon. He played Father Dougal McGuire in Father Ted!! I LOVE HIM! I knew when I was watching that I recognized his voice and sure enough, that cat man was him. yay!

Martha gets kidnapped and taken aboard a car so the couple that took her will have a 3rd person so they can take the fast lane on the highway. But it turns out the traffic ends up going nowhere, just round and round, and in the fast lane you're close to the crazy crab creatures at bottom. The Doctor works to try and find her and ends up jumping from car to car until one of those old devious cat nurses catches him and teleports him away to a room where The Face of Boe awaits. In the end, with the help of The Face of Boe, The Doctor is able to restore power and open the highway to the world above so everybody can escape. But The Face of Boe is dying and finally tells The Doctor his secret, The Doctor isn't alone. DUN DUN DUNNNN!

I found it so sad when Martha unknowingly asks to be taken to The Doctor's home planet. He tries to skirt the topic. But I give Martha so much love for sitting her butt down at the end of the episode and making The Doctor talk to her and tell her what's what.

The Doctor: I lied to you, 'cause I liked it. I could pretend, just for a bit, I could imagine they were still alive underneath the burnt orange sky. I'm not just a Time Lord: I'm the last of the Time Lords. The Face of Boe was wrong. There's no one else.
Martha Jones: What happened?
The Doctor: There was a war. A Time War. The last great Time War. My people fought a race called the Daleks for the sake of all creation, and they lost. They lost. Everyone lost. They're all gone now, my family, my friends, even that sky. Ah, you should have seen it, that old planet. The second sun would rise in the south, the mountains would shine. The leaves on the trees were silver. When they caught the light every morning, they lit the forest on fire.

3x04, 3x05 - Daleks in Manhattan, Evolution of the Daleks: I don't have too much to say about these two episodes. They weren't terrible but they're not my favorite. The weakest episodes of this season, in my opinion. I liked the end idea...The Doctor fighting to keep even a Dalek alive because its the last of its kind, knowing that loneliness. He tries to reason with the Dalek but it temporal shifts away.

And Martha is put out on her own with a huge task that she is to get accomplished on her own without having any clue as to what that task is. But she gets it done in the end. Yay! Gah, I found her so fantastic in these episodes. And I think this might be the first time she admits out loud having some feelings for The Doctor and that he doesn't even notice her. *HUGS*

This episode did have some awesome manic Doctor messing up his own hair. <3

I just found the whole Human Dalek thing very...silly. And I didn't feel much suspense with these episodes. I think maybe the flow was too slow or something, I dunno. Am I alone in not finding groups of Daleks very threatening. In the Series 1 episode, "Dalek", I found the lone Dalek to be so much more intense and threatening then all the groups of them I've seen since.

3x06: The Lazarus Experiment: Another very good episode in this season. Crazy rich genius man makes a machine to change human dna so you can become younger. It has bad side effects and ends up turning him into a huge scorpion like monster.

The beginning made me sad, again. At this point I was really really starting to like Martha and to have her be kind of disregarded by The Doctor, that he'd just leave without any push to keep her along was sad. *sigh* I think this might have been the moment when I realized I want to ship those two. I want Ten/Martha love. But poor Doctor is in no place for that and poor Martha just happened to catch a ride along with The Doctor at the worst possible time to have feelings. But I still want Ten/Martha love. And I still want to ruffle David Tennant's hair!! GUH!!!

And I have seen the ending to this episode before on the television. Starting in the cathedral and Martha running up to the top and then the Doctor plays the organ really loud. Turn it to 11!!

I think I'm the worst viewer ever. This is the first episode where I noticed the name Saxon. Which of course, has appeared earlier but I'm just not clever enough to have noticed it. hehe

The Doctor: Black tie... Whenever I wear this, something bad always happens.
Martha Jones: That's not the outfit, that's just you. But anyway, I think it suits you. In a... James Bond kinda way.
The Doctor: James Bond? Really...

The Doctor: Lovely to meet you, Mrs. Jones. I've heard a lot about you.
Francine Jones: Have you. What have you heard, then?
The Doctor: Oh, y'know, that you're Martha's mother, and... Uhm... no, actually, that's about it. We haven't had much time to chat. You know, been... busy.
Francine Jones: Busy? Doing what, exactly?
The Doctor: Oh, y'know... stuff.

3x07 - 42: This episode...Oh My God of Awesome! I am in love with this episode. This is on the top of the list of best episodes so far. Just...guh. So well done! From the beginning you get into action. I was clinging to edge of my seat this entire episode, but then that could have been the timer counting down. LOL

Another episode with lovely supporting characters that they just drop around you. The Doctor and Martha land on a space ship that's falling into a sun. 42 minutes until impact. The room with the TARDIS has gotten too hot and they cannot go back. So they have to figure out a way to save the ship. The Doctor comes up with a plan but problem after problem arises.

This was an episode where Martha really shines. She shows her strengths, willing to help and work. Until at last one of the possessed crew corners her and a shipmate into a lifepod and it disengages from the ship. That moment with her clinging to the window and The Doctor shouting "I'll Save You" was a beautiful and haunting moment. He risks his life but does end up saving Martha and the shipmate, but not before staring at the sun and becoming possessed himself. But he also realizes something, the sun is a living thing and its mad. The ship's captain had mined it for fuel.

I cannot give enough credit to David Tennant in this episode. Brilliant and scary performance from him as he slowly gets "possessed" or cooked from the inside or however you want to see it. Martha is at a loss as to what to do but is determined to help him. The Doctor has enough wits about him to tell them to take him to the med area where they are to freeze it out of him. He tries to explain to Martha what she has to do but also what will happen to him if he is about to die. And the moment he admits he's scared I just want to hug the both of them and make the scary bad things go away. lol He goes into the machine to get the possession frozen out of him and the screams he lets out...freaky. But then that goes wrong too and they lose power before he's been in long enough to help.

Martha goes off to the bridge to tell them to release their fuel back to the sun. Being followed and haunted as The Doctor loses control and becomes completely possessed, calling for Martha to "Burn with him."

In the end letting the fuel go is enough and the Sun releases its hold on The Doctor. And my heart did skips of joy as Martha goes running into The Doctor's arms and they hug with giddy excitement.

And I totally heart this episode too because The Doctor finally gives Martha the benefits of a frequent flyer, lol. She gets a key to the TARDIS and fixes up her cell phone like he had Rose's.

The Doctor: Ten seconds. That's all I'll be able to take. No more. Ahh, ahh, ahhh! Martha!
Martha Jones: Yeah?
The Doctor: It's burning me up. I can't control it. If you don't get rid of it, I could kill you. I could kill you all.
The Doctor: I'm scared. I'm so scared.
Martha Jones: Just stay calm. You saved me, now I return the favor. Just believe in me.

The Doctor: Keep moving fast as you can. And, Martha, be careful. There may be something else onboard the ship.
Martha Jones: Any time you want to unnerve me, feel free.
The Doctor: Will do, thanks.

I know this goes on to talk about later episodes in this season that are not here but I can't let this matter wait.

OK, to clarify. I do not dislike Rose in any way shape or form. I love her to bits. But MARTHA! I love her to no end, I think! I just think she is so awesome as The Doctor's companion. She's a strong woman who can completely take care of herself and she doesn't go wandering off the first time The Doctor turns his back. Rose did have a crazy tendency to just walk off and disappear. And to also get into just as much trouble as she stopped.

And I do have to say that now having watched this season I want Ten/Martha so much! I loved Ten/Rose but deep down I love her so much more with Nine. For some strange reason I feel that Nine and Rose fit together better then Ten and Rose. But Martha...now that's Ten's companion. He just doesn't see it cause he's so heartbroken over Rose. I don't know what happens come later in this show but Martha was just never given a fair shot and its sad. Ten and Martha work so well together and he overlooks her. And she did so very much for him and the planet over the entire season. She is such a fantastic character. And kudos to her for having those balls to walk away from a man she loved but couldn't love her back.

Oh dear, I think I made a huge mistake by putting animations on the side of my journal. I can't stop watching Cordy and Angel making out. I do need to get some John/Aeryn up there. Haven't gotten around to that yet.
