Its a fact. X-Men 3 is going to be a bad movie. *tear*

just kinda got home from work. We close at midnight now!!! wooo! best idea ever!! uhh..no. an extra hour to sit around and twiddle our thumbs. Or listen to Loveline! :) :) well, i didn't miss Bravery on Loveline. but wasn't that big of a deal...since the guests on that show don't ever really do much but mumble a couple things every once in a while.

Rant: Fanfiction: Slashy

I was asked an interesting question today.

Why do so many people want to see Green Day have sex with each other? Or something very similar to that. In other words...why do so many people write slash fanfiction where bands/people/movie stars have sex with each other. Good question. I really tried to come up with a good answer. Its hard to say. Other then I guess a basic fantasy kinda porn thing. because I love Metallica but none of them are very attractive but still something draws me to those guys and I've written some stuff with them. and I've always been a fan of Green Day. Loved them for their music. Just recently started reading and writing fanfiction with them. Why? I don't know. They aren't the most attractive men in the world either. And why take real people and put them unrealistic or just fantasized scenerios? Is it another step in idolization? Is using real people just an easy way to picture written stories? I can't quite explain why these certain "celebrities" draw my attention or why I move past the line of just loving their music and putting them in a fanfic. Its a strange line that gets crossed. Is it too far into "obsession" or is it just another way to express ones self? ehhh.

and another question. Is it an unhealthy line to cross? Or is fanfiction a perfectly legitimate way to excercise creativity or just have some fun? or is it sick and invading into these people's personal space by putting them fictionally in these circumstances.

I don't know. I like fanfiction. I'm a fan. but its a hard question to answer without sounding strange or insane.

Reasons to feel happier about X3 (sum real sum not):

- the guy who wrote it also wrote Fantastic Four and Mr. and Mrs. Smith <---winner!

- "He also said you can expect his X-Men to have an enhanced sense of humor." from le director #3

- "So will Gambit make it to the film? "He is not a major character in the film," says Simon." uh-oh minor gambit action? (simon is the writer by the way)

- "He also confirmed what Tom Rothman told us a few minutes before, that the Dark Phoenix does have a big part in the movie but that there is also a secondary plot that is as thematically rich as any of the past films."

- "So has Brett Ratner's attachment to X3 made much of a difference with the script on hand? Not much according to the writer, Brett has some ideas but is sticking closely to the screenplay. Considering that it starts shooting in a few weeks there isn't many re-writes that could be done anyway."

- oh and not X-Men related but the next comic movie fox is doing after this is Silver Surfer. :)

There are a lot of answers/theories to the reasoning as to why slash and fanfiction are so alluring. I think that fanfiction of books/movies/series is a wonderful way for fans to further their love of the storylines/arcs/development of their characters. But when it comes to REAL PERSON slash (or het), I think the pull comes from the idea that the story is never done. Series end, limits can be met. But with the lives of actual individuals there's a lot of wiggle room (and honestly, Green Day gives me an almost daily excuse to slash the hell out of them). Also, celebrities are living something of a "fantasy" life, which means that some of the extraordinary scenarios seem possible, which is also attractive.

As for it being right, that's a question I ask myself every day. I think that as long as you never take it seriously (because these boys are about as straight as it gets, Billie's bisexuality aside ('cause, HELLO ELEVEN YEARS of MARRIAGE) they will never hook up with each other) and always keep reality separate from fantasy, you're okay. It's a hard line to walk, but that doesn't mean you have to stop writing.

And I'll stop being all long-winded and silly. :D

number 1 told you gambit would be there in some form. thank you katie you rock!!! number 2 i had no idea my question had such effect on you its was just a random thought and 3 i understand what you and rainjewel were talking about (especially about continuation of stories i completely understand that) and agree with most but why do the fics all have to be homosexual or even sexual at all. why cant it just a cool story or idea like i saw one that told a theory on how the cd got "stolen". im not questioning it or saying its wrong i just really want some insight so i understand it better. just to reiterate gambit and katie both rule :)
