Art Brut und We Are Scientists: Just got back from the Art Brut and We Are Scientists show. It was very fun. I'm tired now...I smell like cigarettes and smoke and Katie and I had an interesting discussion with a strange boy.
But firstly! I was not allowed to bring my camera in! I'm pissed about that! GAH! I really enjoyed bringing my camera into the Social and taking photos. :( Now I can't. The guy at the door came across very very rude about the whole thing. I was pissed at him until after the show he apologized to me. So now I don't like him because he made it hard to not like him. Bastard.
First up on the night was the Spinto Band...we came in a bit late part way through their set becaues the Italian guy stopped by the apartment to ask Katie about cellphones...and then we all got distracted. So anyway...yeah. Spinto Band did not impress me.
Art Brut was next...which was slightly disappointing since the last time we saw them they were the headlining band. I like We Are Scientists but I don't think they deserve having the headlining spot over Art Brut. But the world does not go my way. Art Brut was fantastisch! Fun and made it kind of different from last time. He asked the crowd if they new which way Los Angeles was from where we were...and everybody pointed different directions and said "West"...so nice. I'm not saying I'm good at directions...but at least I didn't attempt to be the authority and confidently point in a random direction.
hehe...anyway, they were funny. I can't say it was better than the last show...because again, they were headliners last time. Had a bit more leeway to do what they wanted. But this time around the lead singer did NOT have a moustache! I was very disappointed about that. :( He needs to bring it back.
We Are Scientists did however, have a man with a moustache. The bassist was sporting a very fertile moustache and a flashy pair of goggles. He was kind of adorable. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular from We Are Scientists...and they didn't disappoint or amaze. They were good. They were fun. And they played well. I was impressed with their ability to play and perform the songs live. I was writing them off as a very very just pop band...who can't really play the songs too well live. But they sounded great. Just not...anything too special. The exact same way I feel about their album. Its good, its fun but does it do anything unique? No, not really. I do like them though...so it was a lot of fun! :)
And between Art Brut and We Are Scientists, there was this kid...who really disliked Art Brut...though he knew very little about them and didn't pay attention to their set. Anyway, the one thing that got me that he said..."Art Brut aren't doing anything new, its been done," or something along those same lines. But what in his crazy little mind thinks We Are Scientists are doing anything new? Its all recycled and packaged with a new face. And he also said that We Are Scientist's album was the best of the year 2005. *chokes* WHAT?! I hope he wasn't serious.
Oh yeah...he was talking shit about Art Brut and happened to mention, "The lead singer and his faux accent." A wha wha? The last I heard Art Brut was British band...and British people tend to have what they call in the States...a British accent. *le sigh*
I realize this post makes it seem like I hate We Are Scientists, but I don't! I actually really like them! It always seems like I'm inwardly ashamed about liking them though. But they were very good live. I would recommend them to anybody who likes fun music! Fun times! I got a cool poster and had a great time!
I'm out of this bitch! I gots to work tomorrow!
