I wanna go fast!

Talladega Nights : Ballad of Ricky Bobby: Katie and I went and watched Talladega Nights today. Oh My Dear Freaking Baby Jesus! HILARIOUS!

It was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I don't know if that's because it was actually that funny or there just haven't been too many funny movies out recently. But anyway...Will Ferrell strikes again! I always thought he was pretty funny, but each movie I see him in I like him even more. The French driver (Sacha Baron Cohen) and Andy Richter as his husband...pure gay comic gold. Yes...the humor was slightly childish...but I also think it was thrown in the maybe piss some people off...A gay French Nascar Driver?! C'mon! The Nascar folks are going to be boiling over it! And it was also done well, in that they didn't make the character hateable.

And I just have to give them props...because using Sacha Baron Cohen is always a fantastic idea!

The "Say you like really thin pancakes" "That's a fair compromise." and the "Large Water Parks" being a main reason for people visiting America...haha.

The Invisible Fire!!! Oooho! too funny. "Oh Jesus, don't let the invisible fire kill my friend!" Classic!

And the jokes on sponsorship and commercials...while having the entire movie spray painted with Advertisements...I think there was a Genius behind this movie. It was making fun at the corporate sponsoship while at the same time using corporate sponsorship. The last car crash between Ricky Bobby and French Man (Forgot name) and the cut to commercial...somehow was just brilliant.

The cougar! The names of his kids "Walker" and "Texas Ranger, T.R. as we call him." The Baby Jesus Prayers! The Powerade Prayer Sponsorship! and "If you don't chew Big Red then fuck you!"

Oh nevermind! I don't have any qualms in saying this movie was utterly hilarious! WATCH IT!

The Nascar folks are going to be boiling over it!

I read an interview with Ferrell in my local paper two days ago, that before they did the movie, they consulted with NASCAR. Showed them Anchorman and told them this was their style of humor, so they'd know what they were getting into. I think Ferrell said something like, "We're going to poke fun at the sport, but never at the fans." They seemed cool with it.

I can't wait to see the movie, though. I won't get to go until next week sometime. Stupid work schedule.

Thinking back on it...the movie didn't really make fun of the fans, that's true. There was very little, if any, jokes at the expense of the "stereotypical" Nascar fan. But any joke around it came from the story ot the gay French driver. And maybe if you think they're saying that all southerners are like Ricky Bobby...but its never really implied to be taken that way.

I thought it was pretty respectful to the sport and the fans, really. But the gay French Driver was a way to One: Use some gay jokes and Two: use some jokes that Nascar fans are threatened or made uncomfortable by gay people.

Being someone who lives near a NASCAR race-track (I'm in Kansas City, Kansas), therefore, subjected to the culture all of the time now, I'm left to wonder ... how has it become a stereotype NASCAR fans are mostly ... I don't know how to say it without being offensive. Not as wealthy as most of America? Because the tickets for NASCAR races? They're hundreds of dollars. That's totally a rich person's pasttime, dude. There's not one person in this county who could afford to go to one of those races. But I don't think too many of us give a rat's patoot about NASCAR, tho.

I don't know if its become the stereotype that NASCAR fans are not as wealthy...but I guess...it seems more that its the same image that people get when they think of the stereotypical Southerner. Kind of hickish...I guess. But I don't know. I lived in Ohio for a majority of my life, and there's quite a large NASCAR fan base there...my mom and her husband are HUGE NASCAR fans. but those two don't really help the cause of saving the NASCAR fan image...but a lot of the fans weren't what I would call the stereotypical NASCAR fan.

I would be so bold to say that its more funny than Anchorman...but I can't. Everytime I watch Anchorman it gets even more hilarious. There's just so much jam packed into Anchorman that you don't notice until you watch it a few times.

Maybe Talladega Nights will be a gem like Anchorman. Its the same style of humor.
